The Dolpo Region Trek is opened in 1989 for trekking. This trekking region lies in the mid-western part of Nepal which is relatively a less developed part. Dolpo region is hard to match for its pristine beauty and rugged charm, where one can still have opportunity to meet the wandering people and their life style almost untouched and unexplored. It is rugged, stark and beautiful land characterized by high passes and a community of Tibetan-stock people who follow Tibetan Buddhism and the old pre-Buddhist religion of Bon, the area were restricted to outsiders until recently and thought the Dolpo has been considered the last enclave of pure Tibetan culture left on earth. Due to the poor living conditions, few people live or travel in these areas. As a result, the people of Dolpa are part of a very isolated culture found in specific pockets of northern Nepal. This is a land where life still revolves around horses, mules, and yaks, people still wear traditional clothing and jewelry, waters are still divided on the basis of a dice game, and the remains of the dead are given to wild vultures. Even today, much of Dolpa is restricted area for tourists, which contributed to the preservation of unique culture of Dolpa
The world’s deepest lake She-Phokshundo at an altitude of 3600m and many other famous lakes lies in this region. Shey Phoksundo National Park, Buddhist monuments, unspoiled trans-Himalayan culture, rain shadow landscapes with stunning mountain views, wild flowers, Himalayan blue sheep, snow leopards, huge birds Himalayan griffon, attractive snow peaks including Dhaulagiri I (8167m), Churen Himal(7381m), Himal (7249m), Kanjiriba north (6883m), Kanjiriba south (6861m), Putha Mukot Himal (6639m), Araniko Himal (6034m) and many other everlasting snow peaks can be seen, Tarap Valley, Shey Gumba: religiously the most important Gumba in Nepal, home to rare herbs and shrubs like Jatamasi, Panchaunle, Chimailo, Yarsagumba etc. are main attraction of this Dolpo Trek.
